What Ofsted Said   Personal & Social Development
What Ofsted Said   Personal & Social Development

We were delighted with the excellent report we received at our Ofsted Inspection in September 2011. Here are just a few of the great things they had to say about Wren’s Nursery.

“The school takes outstanding steps to ensure that pupils of all ages feel safe through its regard for their health, welfare and safety and robust arrangements for safeguarding.”

“Within a matter of weeks of starting at the Nursery, children have settled confidently due to the great care given to the induction procedures and opportunities, such as the beach barbecue, for all families prior to children starting Nursery.”

“Staff know the children individually and key workers work very effectively with parents and children. As a result, children make good progress and achieve good outcomes in all areas of learning including literacy, numeracy and personal development.”

“...children learn well as a result of the enrichment experiences provided through first-hand experiences and, in particular, the use of the outdoor environment.”

“The Nursery is currently expanding its ‘forest work programme’ to further develop children’s nature skills”

This is a key area of development for all children of nursery school age. Here at Wren’s Nursery we place great emphasis upon developing the interpersonal skills of all our children. They are encouraged to care for those around them and learn from both their peers, the staff and the older children in the school.

In all areas of school life we aim to get the children to start to think for themselves through simple every day tasks.

The Curriculum   Integration into School
The Curriculum   Integration into School

All six areas of the Foundation Stage of the National Curriculum are covered at Wren's Nursery. We also incorporate the 'Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum' framework into activities for our 2-3 year olds.

The emphasis is on learning through play. As the children move into the Reception class their learning becomes more structured in order to help them make the transition into Primary School.

It is an essential part of our teaching that each child is treated as an individual and their progress is developed according to their ability and level of interest.

In addition to the National Curriculum we also encourage the children to learn French and Music and we have specialist teachers who come in to teach them these subject areas. Again, the emphasis is on learning through play so that their interest is sparked at a young age.

The family atmosphere of Hooke Court School means that the Nursery children are able to learn to form relationships with older children within a safe and secure environment.

All of our children are taught the value of looking after each other and the integration of the younger children with the older ones at playtime and sometimes during lessons is hugely successful and beneficial.
